Wait… What? – You, probably!

Over the last few months I have published quite a few articles involving comic books (they’re great! go read some now!), but have never really documented my own comic book journey. What am I actually reading? What do I enjoy reading? I have been mulling over these questions and came to the realization that what I am wanting is to create a digital comic book book club – a place where we can talk about what we are reading, either in general, or alongside myself. And, because I cannot simply do one thing, I will be documenting this alongside my YouTube channel! I will also be contrasting how I have historically felt about these stories versus how I feel about them now!

Next week’s Comic Book Book Club will be over Daredevil Volume 2, issues 1-8 by Kevin Smith, Joe Quesada, and Jimmy Palmiotti, known as “Guardian Devil”, and Black Panther Volume 3, issues 1-5 by Christopher Priest, Mark Texeira, and Brian Haberlin, known as “The Client”.

I have read both storylines previously, Guardian Devil in 2015, and The Client in 2019 and again last year in 2024. Going into the reread, I am excited to see how my opinion on Guardian Devil holds up – I believe it to be one of the worst Daredevil runs ever, but am open to changing it! In contrast to that, The Client is a fantastic story and one of my favorite versions of Black Panther! These comics are from a time in Marvel’s history that is very near and dear to my heart – the Marvel Knights Era. Marvel was in dire financial failure, and took a gamble with outsiders Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti to bring some new life into these “lesser known (selling!) characters”.

I hope to see you all throughout the journey – either agreeing with my opinions or posting your own opinions! Next week’s post will go live on Friday, and will be linked here when it is up!
