Vying for Time is a passion project between my brother and I harkening back to a simplier time of media consumption. The time when we were kids, with a single TV between us, taking turns playing old (even at the time) video games and creating stories. Going to the movie theater once every few months to see Star Wars or Jurassic Park or Inception. A time when there was a feeling of a singular pop culture, where everyone was consuming the same media. Often, I feel that instead of consuming media for a sense of unity and mutual love for a franchise or topic, people are drawn into this desire to consume media that is bad, or not aimed at them, for the sole purpose of shitting on it. I am by no means an artist, I cannot program a video game or create a comic book or even write a very good story, therefore I find it disingenuous to dog pile on other people’s artist expression for clicks or views. Furthermore, there are franchises and types of media that my brother enjoys that I do not, and the opposite is also true – the positive of this is that we can discuss media that we strictly enjoy while covering more topics. The ultimate goal of this project is to inspire others to try media that might be at the bottom of their backlog, or outside of their wheelhouse, or completely foreign to them, and create a discussion centered on positivity and love of the media in general. I hope that you join us on this journey and through our love of these franchises, you too gain a deeper appreciation for them.
